Weddings and Romance - Wedding Guide
We have prepared a short guide for you to help you plan your
wedding at the Woodside. And rest assured that at all stages
of the journey, from the conception of the wedding to the
actual event itself, we are for you, and on hand to assist.
Getting married in Scotland
Following the recent change in the law enabling civil ceremonies
to take place in hotels, we are now registered for civil marriages.
You can now hold your civil or religious marriage service
at The Woodside. For quick details of the legal requirements
go to www.edinburgh.gov.uk/marriage
The great recent increase in the ‘destination wedding’
idea has naturally brought with it a huge interest in the
requirements and procedures for Scottish marriages. Getting
married in Scotland is not only special – but easy,
no matter where in the world you come from. And to make it
even easier why not download one of our useful guides and
forms below
- Getting married in Scotland (PDF)
- Local registrars’ fees (PDF)
- Application for the services of a registrar (PDF)
Of course you can arrange for your priest or minister to
conduct a religious marriage service at the hotel. Please
contact us
for full details of how to conduct your service at The Woodside.

Help us to help you look after your guests
Naturally, many of our wedding ceremonies and receptions at
The Woodside are destination weddings. And inviting guests
to a destination wedding in Scotland is a little different
than inviting them to a ceremony in your home town. Where
will they stay? What will they do?
Below is a little checklist which may be useful.
I. Make sure they know your ‘itinerary of events’,
so that they know when to arrive
II. Suggestions of airport to fly into if they are coming
a distance – Edinburgh is best.
III. Directions from airport and the main roads to the Hotel
and to nearby towns and villages with hotels and other accommodation
if needed – download our area maps and directions here
(link to printable map and directions)
IV. List of suggested hotels and accommodation, with contacts
for making reservations – we can help you put this together
if needed
V. Information about who to contact if there are any problems
VI. A list of things to do in the area, if your guests are
here for a while – again see our activities, touring
and local area pages, which you can print off and send to
them.
VII. Information on the typical weather, and suggestions for
attire, both for the wedding itself, and for the time they
are in the area.
How do you put this together for your guests? A good idea
is to firstly send their invitation, then a few days later
mail out your ‘Guest Guide’. Most guests will
really appreciate the information - and be less worried about
how they received it!
We are also happy to advise re favours, gift mementos and
other little touches your guests will appreciate on what will
be a memorable visit to The Woodside.
